Fees & Insurance

Fees & Insurance

Payment & Insurance

Safe Harbor Counseling Center is a “fee for service practice.” Safe Harbor does NOT BILL insurance companies or any other outside entities. Payment from the client is due at the time of service. If you would like to try and be reimbursed by your insurance or another entity our system automatically provides you a reimbursement statement (also called a “super bill”) This statement is sent on the first of each month and contains all the codes you will need for reimbursement. Reimbursement is processed on your own. To verify insurance coverage,  you will want to call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask if they reimburse “out of network” providers. Many insurance plans will cover a portion of the fee. Safe Harbor Counseling Center accepts cash, checks and most major credit cards.

Sliding Scale

At Safe Harbor Counseling Center we understand that counseling is expensive. We have a sliding scale of fees based on licensure and level of experience of the therapist to accommodate the needs of clients at various levels of economic status. The pre- licensed associates take the lowest fees. However, they meet weekly with the director in supervision to discuss all their cases to make sure you are provided with excellent treatment. Essentially this is a fantastic option because if you work with an associate, it means you get a lower fee and two therapists involved on your case.

Associate Therapists

Associates therapists are pre-licensed. They have completed their graduate level education and training and are approved by the Board of Behavioral Sciences to provide psychotherapy. Associates meet with their clients alone, but each week the associate discusses the care of their clients with their supervisor. Supervisors are experienced and licensed therapists who guide associates. Therapy with an associate is an excellent option because there is a reduction in fee and you essentially have two therapists involved in making sure you receive quality care.

Complaints or concerns regarding the office, business transactions, behavior or over-all attitude of your therapist should be made to the director Elaine M. Romero at extension # 3001. The Board of Behavioral Sciences receives and responds to complaints regarding services provided within the scope of practice of licensed psychotherapists (marriage and family therapists, clinical social workers, or professional clinical counselors. You may contact the board online at bbs.ca.gov or by calling 916-574-7830
